DownSouth, Please call me Don. I am not very adept with my computer, despite being on my 7th PC. After I entered my name, which includes the Ph.D., in my Dell computer, I have not known how to change my name on SI. I know this violates Internet norms, not that I care too much about that. But I would change it if I knew how, just to avoid any unpleasantness. After about 40 years; being a doctor very much seems a part of me, but I don't like to be called Doctor, unless I am getting a dinner reservation of a real doctor's appointment. I will use my name in some form; it fosters politeness and responsibility. I like that. I have learned a lot from you, DownSouth, and already you are teaching more. I am an Alabama boy, so we may be kindred sprits. In the promised post on Gorilla genes, I will try to make an argument that this modular structure is discontinuous, although it may not be, and the the modules are proprietary, although they may not be. Also, the model needs expanding to include more forms of sustainable and compelling competitive advantage. And, the sooner the better; at least, for those of us who are less risk averse. Just erecting a trial balloon, to see what I can learn from you and others who puncture it. I'll give it a shot this weekend. My anniversary is coming on the 14th, and my romance with my wife deserves my full attention. Not only does it deserve it, it is even more fascinating than Gorilla criteria. Best, Don |
