Actually, I like Juan Miguel, he seems like a solid guy.

Also, I have reversed my earlier position (i.e., hoping for a bloody civil war in which the blood runs in the streets) and am content to let them choose whatever government they wish.

I suspect that you are right in that if Jorge Mas Canosa had become president, he would have used a witch hunt against suspected communists as a devise to become a typical latin america dictator.
