I have been considering what the appropriate steps a person should take if they find out that someone has issued an unsolicited public "professional medical opinion" about them on an Internet chat site. I would recommend the following:

To check to see if this individual has a medical license, first go to the URL below. Click on the state in which that individual lives and then run a search on their name.

Second, I would recommend filing a complaint with the appropriate State Board of Medical Examiners. The board will be able to help you to determine if a non-physician holds some special exemption to Medical Practice Act which allows them to provide lawful medical opinions and/or if the posting of the unsolicited public "professional medical opinion" by the individual represents grossly unprofessional conduct as determined by the board.
