ATHM has exclusive contracts with most cable companies (ATT, Comcast, CVS etc.starting to expire in 2002) to provide the broadband internet service. ATHM owns the network backbone and the server infrastructure.
The cable companies handle the front end (billing etc.) and the 'lastmile' cable infrastructure.
the revenue is shared between ATHM and the cable companies and in addition, the cable companies own ATHM shares and may receive option in ATHM shares, depending on their success acquiring cable modem customers.
