He was an evil man and and evil president. Perhaps the worst president the USA has ever suffered.

I disagree with you about the fact that people weren't thinking for themselves when they elected FDR four times; please explain what you mean by this. Who was telling people what to think? Do you apply the same logic when Republican presidents are elected?. It's hard to comprehend this, but the unemployment rate was 25% at the depths of the great depression; people were desperate for any help they could get. They instinctively choose the canidate who was promising to provide them help, and in the 30s that canidate was FDR.

I also disagree that FDR was an evil man and president. He led the country through some of its toughest times, the great depression and world war 2. He also restored people's faith in the capitalist system by establishing checks and balances in the banking and financial markets, which laid the groundwork for the economic expansion in the later half of the 20th century. If the laizze-faire Republicans had remained in control during the 30s, we might have had an outright revolution against the system. Some of FDR's excesses were taken care of by the checks and balances built into the system. A true dictator would have gotten away trying to pack the supreme court.

I wonder if you were a fan of Richard Nixon? He truly was the closest thing we've had to a dictator in the oval office. Do you recall his "price controls" (very socialistic/dictitorial) during the 73/74 inflation crises? Also, his enemies list and paranoid thinking that he's above the law were facistic in nature. I think Nixon was a damn good president, despite his personality flaws and dictatorial traits. But a person of his nature is at odds with a constitutional republic, and therefore I'm happy he was forced from office.
