InterWireless Inc., an eSat Co., Signs Contract With Adaptive Broadband for AB-Access Fixed Wireless Broadband Equipment

Companies' Combined Experience and Technological Expertise To Lead Immediate Southern California Build Out

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2000-- InterWireless, an eSAT company (OTC: ASAT - news), (FRANKFURT: ES8), and wireless Internet service provider, Wednesday announced that it has signed a contract with Adaptive Broadband(TM) Corp. (Nasdaq: ADAP - news) for use of its AB-Access(TM) fixed wireless broadband equipment.

Under the terms of the agreement, InterWireless, a pioneer in wireless technology, will receive favorable pricing and delivery commitments for AB-Access equipment, as well as immediate access to any new product releases from Adaptive Broadband during the duration of the contract. In addition, Adaptive Broadband will provide full support of InterWireless in the United States and abroad to include: sales, marketing, engineering and product training.

InterWireless acts as a wireless ISP for Internet services providing ultra high-speed wireless Internet access at speeds up to 155 megabits per second. This service is many times faster than DSL, Cable modem or traditional leased lines and is provided to customers at a lower cost. For more than three years, InterWireless has been a pioneering force as one of the first fully functioning wireless ISPs in the world. Through the use of its extensive expertise in RF (Radio Frequency) engineering, networking and proprietary software development, the company focuses on the convergence of video, voice and data in order to bring broadband Internet connectivity, content and e-commerce over a fixed wireless platform to residential and business customers in both the United States and abroad.

AB-Access, with its current high-speed data rate of 25Mbps, will offer InterWireless improved broadband wireless data networking capabilities for both current and future customers. The equipment will be a major addition to InterWireless's existing infrastructure. As part of its initial deployment plan, InterWireless will add AB-Access to its existing wireless network in the Los Angeles region, making the company the first operator to build out a major metropolitan area using AB-Access equipment. The company's immediate expansion plans include building out its existing presence in Southern California and eventually marketing its wireless capabilities to single family residential customers.

In addition to using AB-Access to serve to its own clients, InterWireless has obtained authorized reseller status for the equipment. As such, InterWireless will serve as a significant reseller of Adaptive Broadband's equipment in the Eastern European market and other areas of the world that have adopted the 5 Ghz. Spectrum for fixed wireless access. InterWireless's initial plans in that region include marketing Adaptive Broadband's 5.2-5.85 Ghz product to other Internet service providers in Eastern Europe.

``Adaptive Broadband's AB-Access product is a key element in eSAT's overall plan to integrate our 'long-haul' satellite technology with our high-speed 'last mile' wireless service to position our company as a 'single-source' solution for information access,'' said Michael Palmer, chief executive officer for eSAT. ``We believe that using Adaptive Broadband's AB-Access product will offer us the opportunity to capture a significant share of the high speed data and access solutions market both in the U.S. and globally.''

``InterWireless is a premier 'last mile' wireless solutions provider that is well positioned to become a leader in high-speed wireless Internet access. As one of the most experienced of our deployment alliances, we are very pleased to add them to our customer portfolio,'' said Frederick D. Lawrence, chairman and chief executive officer of Adaptive Broadband. ``In addition, our relationship with InterWireless will afford us an exciting opportunity to market our 5.2-5.85 Ghz version of AB-Access to the virtually untapped Eastern European region. Our AB-Access equipment is well suited to assist InterWireless in its goal of providing a high-speed connectivity solution offered in this market.''

About AB-Access

The AB-Access fixed wireless broadband product platform bridges the last mile, replacing the local loop for business and residential subscribers. It currently offers data transmission at rates up to 25 Mbps, which provides the capability for real-time video conferencing, transmission of full streaming video, Web surfing, and transmission of data files -- all simultaneously and over one connection. Currently positioned as a fixed offering, portable versions of AB-Access are planned in 2000.

AB-Access technology spans the frequency range from 2 to 42 GHz. The first releases for AB-Access are for applications using the 5 GHz U-NII (Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure) and 2.5 GHz MMDS (Multi-channel, Multi-point Distribution Service) frequency bands. Adaptive Broadband recently announced a 27.5-31.3 GHz LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Service) version of AB-Access and a 3.5-3.7 GHz (International Wireless Local Loop) version for the Western European market.
