It is much easier to deal with science in school than it is with religion, simply because scientists everywhere use the same basic terms and premises, and generally manage to achieve consensus on the basic principles taught in elementary and high schools.

The religious never seem able to achieve consensus on anything. There are innumerable sects and subsects, they never agree, and if you let one speak its piece, you have give them all equal time. If you do that, there won't be time for anything else. Not very practical, really.

I wouldn't object to comparative religion classes, studying all with preference to none, but most schools wouldn't touch it. Too many parents would scream at the idea of their particular belief being taught as anything but the sole truth.
