Eric:
So rather than fighting over what was ocurring in Dave Cutler's
head & who owns his thoughts, Gates settled by tossing DEC a few crumbs so as to not compromise the release of NT?

I'm not trying to belittle DEC, MSFT, you, or Dave Cutler. I'm just
trying to get a handle on this:"well it kinda looks like something we
were doing ..." stuff. There are many, many similarities in everything dealing with PC's. What I am searching for, and what may
not exist, is some tangible piece of proprietary technology that
DEC is damn sure THEY invented, THEY patented, and is sitting inside a P2 chip. (E.G. The first two letters of ANY Dos program are the same,
and are required to be there for it to run. It is an un-eraseable "tattoo" that shows the language from which the program originated. Hypothetically speaking, if that were to show up in a new MAC program, there could be some solid argument about licensing fees. )

I apologize if this is an obscure analogy, but I am desperately
grappling for something other than obscurity. I have no Intel stock,
I have no DEC stock. But, IMO, I should acquire one and/or short
one based upon this event. So far, every time I try to get my arms
around the substance of DEC's argument, I keep getting an arm full
of air. (This does NOT mean I am correct. It may just as likely mean
I am very dense. Caveat Emptor!)

Regards,

Doug
