ESI Introduces 300mm Wafer Sorter Series

PR Newswire, Wednesday, July 12, 2000 at 15:01

PORTLAND, Ore., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Electro Scientific Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:ESIO) announced the introduction of a multi-loadport sorting platform designed for use throughout all phases of 300mm wafer processing. The Model 7130 is a robust, next generation system enabling operators to perform ultra-safe and reliable wafer ID reading, and recipe-driven sorting, splitting, merging and randomizing of 300mm wafer lots in an extremely compact footprint.

The system employs a reliable 4-axis robot with high-speed cassette mapping and a dual paddle design for high throughput; both edge-handling and back side handling designs are available. Closed-loop control of all axes, vacuum sensors on each handling element, and a backup vacuum reservoir ensure safe 300mm wafer handling.

A high-speed aligner equipped with a fully-integrated ESI ScribeRead(TM) system and advanced illumination reads front or back side wafer IDs with nearly 100% accuracy. The system is capable of reading SEMI fonts; T1, T2, and T7 bar codes; and T7-0997 and T2-95 2D IDs.

This system uses NT-based software with user-configurable workspaces and drag-and-drop creation of custom sorting recipes. Setup information, wafer status, and live images of wafer IDs can be viewed real-time in scalable windows. Communications packages are available for SECS/GEM, FTP and TCP/IP protocols.

The Model 7130 features a compact mini-environment with ultra-efficient class 1 particle filtration. The system's modular design is highly configurable, accommodating from two to four loadports, and provides for straight forward maintenance and service.

Statements in this press release may include forward looking statements that involve a number of risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to materially differ, either better or worse, from those discussed. Such risks and uncertainties are numerous and are identified in the Company's Annual Report on Form 10-K and interim reports on Form 10-Q.
