Even since the New Deal, defense spending has far outstripped domestic spending. My characterization is essentially correct: most of the national debt accumulated as a result of defense spending, and would be worse if taxes had not risen.

I will have to look into the property tax matter more thoroughly, I see. Thanks for your response, though.
