They are taken on something like faith in some regards and yet unlike faith in a very crucial aspect. Faith in the religious or philosophical sense is assigned to ideas that are then placed beyond review, in the "Just because." drawer. Science necessarily starts from some presumptions about the nature of reality, but one of the most charming features of science is that everything is available for challenge or review. There is no Privileged Set of facts or procedures. Can you identify a core principle of science (not a fact or theory, but something central to the scientific method) that relies on faith as an engine?
