Nokia Builds New Canadian Headquarters for Mobile Phones
AJAX, ON, July 13 /CNW/ - Nokia, the global leader in telecommunications, began construction of their new Canadian headquarters for mobile phones at a groundbreaking ceremony held today in Ajax, Ontario
The 1.44-acre property, located adjacent to its existing headquarters, is slated for completion in March 2001 and will offer a two-story 4,016-square metre office building plus 3,827-square metres of underground parking. Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were local dignitaries, including Steve Parish, Mayor of Ajax and Roger Anderson, Durham Regional Chair.
"We keep growing and growing," says Al Gilchrist, President of Nokia Canada. "Today's announcement underscores Nokia's continued growth in the Canadian marketplace and our economic commitment to the town of Ajax," adds Gilchrist. "The expansion of our Canadian headquarters will continue to support and enhance the marketing, sales and service of cellular phones and other leading-edge wireless technology."
This announcement falls directly on the heels of Nokia's 2,550-square metre expansion of the existing facility completed in early1999. As a technological leader, Nokia continues to grow requiring more space to accommodate the increase in the number of employees. Within the past year, the number of employees has doubled to more than 210. Today's ceremony signifies Nokia's
profound success, which in part has fueled the exponential growth of the wireless industry in Canada. |
