lml- I understand television is going to be digital at some point in the future. My point-- What economic/competitive model is going to drive it's development? That is what I meant by, "But how?"

The FCC is setting deadlines that come and go. I've listened to three or four speeches by the FCC's Kennard about moving the US from an analog to a digital TV model, and he is upset that there has not been more progress made. To the point where he has threatened to yank the UHF frequencies he gave(no charge) to the broadcasters for digital content broadcasting. Then he's mad at the MSO's for not coming up with standards, and then he's upset about the TV manufacturers not making an affordable product for viewing digital content. He seems to shy away, at this time, from any issues that involve the telcos plans to do TV. But if VDSL becomes a reality, then that's another player in the game to add complications to a paradigm shift in the current television model.

Going to an all digital TV model is a very complicated and expensive proposition, with many players involved. Each with their own agenda. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how it's all shaking out. -MikeM(From Florida)
