I know the local canal is the Hennepin. I may go look at it by boat. The first 10 miles are open to boats. The canal runs from The Illinois River to the Mississippi.

I'm racking my brain as to where the neat tub lock is. It was 40 years ago when I was there. Used to have a postcard of it. It's in New York or Ontario. I remember we sailed out of Buffalo New York and spent one trip on the Erie Canal, another on Lake Erie and the last across Lake Ontario up to Alexandria Bay in the Thousand Islands. I'm leaning toward Ontario as a bypass to Niagra Falls.
