Tbe problem with studying "love" is it is a mental construction (a word) with no single corresponding natural manifestation. You are quite right -- we loosely use "love" for sexual and nonsexual attraction. Should we define "love" as continued close attraction between two living creatures, we would have many different manifestations. A goose and gander, mated for life. Inseparable animal companions -- a horse and its stablemate goat or dog. A man and a woman living together through thick and thin for 50 years. IMO no single cause or chemical could explain these different phenomena.
