Online brokers rallying

The Nasdaq Other Financials Index ($OFIN: news, msgs) is up 2.8 percent, extending Wednesday's 3 percent rally. At it's intraday best, the index rose to levels not seen since May 1. The two most actively traded stocks within the index are online brokers E-Trade (EGRP: news, msgs) and Ameritrade (AMTD: news, msgs). Those stocks are rallying 8.3 percent to 17 7/8 and 6.5 percent to 13 1/4, respectively. Among other online brokers, DLJdirect (DIR: news, msgs) is trading up 14 percent at 8 3/16, National Discount Brokers (NDB: news, msgs) is 6.5 percent better at 37 7/8 and Charles Schwab (SCH: news, msgs) is inching 1/16 higher to 36 5/16. Breaking it down, Merrill Lynch Internet Holdrs (HHH: news, msgs) is up 13 percent in the last two trading sessions and the AMEX Securities Broker/Dealer Index ($XBD: news, msgs) has added 8.1 percent.
