res- I don't think he'd hesitate for a moment if he thought there was an advantage to be gained from it. I don't see where the advantage would be, since by the time the doctor was present the media no longer had access to Elian and anything he would say would hardly matter.

Ahhh, but you do hesitate quite a bit in regard to Elian. The 11th circuit court decision was still up in the air, therefore it was possible that Elian would have his asylum request heard in open court. If that happened, Fidel wanted to make sure he said the right thing. Namely, that I want to return to Cuba with my father. Or perhaps the drugs were brought as a precautionary measure just in case Elian didn't want to play our communist game, and they were never used. Either way it's much more plausible they were intended for Elian then mistakenly brought across the border because the man "always carries them with him". I've read a few reports where pediatricians have gone on the record and stated the drugs were not something a doctor would normally carry around with them. Especially, if the doctor was administering to a childs needs.

I think you base your criteria for plausibility on the assumption that certain actors in the drama wear black hats, twirl their moustaches, answer to the name "Dick Dastardly", and can always be assumed to have done the most despicable thing imaginable.

Then more petulant condescending words which drove Vince from the thread. Do you and the others posters on this thread not realize you're being rude and just as ugly as someone calling another person "bacteria or smegma"?

Recognizing that the decision makers involved are liars, and manipulators of the media as well as political machines, doesn't mean they're "Dick Dastardly" characters. I've already explained the most plausible motivation of why politics dominated their desire and actions.

It was one of the posts you neglected to respond to.
