Bob, please don't throw any stones.<g> I would like to request two feature enhancements.

1. In the New Subject list screen out those subjects started in the Wild&Crazy Go2Net Test Area. They are already screened out of the Hot Subjects and StockTalk lists.

All these new test threads only serve to defeat the purpose of the New Subjects list and dilute the contributions of the SI membership.

2. I would also like to see a Hot Subjects option that includes coffee house threads. SI has effectively killed the number of posts going to coffee house threads by removing them from the Hot Subjects list at the top of SI pages.

What made SI special in the past was the sense of community. The coffee house threads serve a very important part in creating the personality of that community. In essence it was the night life of the SI community.

In addition some of the most successful stock discussion threads on SI were set up in the coffee house area on purpose so those who participated in those threads knew that off topic discussion was welcome on those threads.

For example consider:

Subject 25180

Subject 27793

Subject 6780

Who on SI would even know SI had a golf thread, a NASCAR thread, or a religious community if it didn't occasionally pop up on the list?

Perhaps most important of all is how many would have missed this thread if it hadn't set on the top of the HOT List:

Subject 34893

If SI wanted to go hog wild, maybe they could even set it up where each member could check off which areas of StockTalk they wanted included in their <i.Hot Subjects list.

I believe it was a serious mistake to remove the coffee house threads from the Hot Subjects list. In fact I believe it may be an over reaction to the rantings of a former SI member and Go2Net shareholder.
