Scumbria, Another idea... Microsoft just announced that they're going to move to a "rented software" business model. Maybe AMD could borrow this strategy as well and move to a "rented hardware" model! Gateway and all the other companies could just pay AMD a monthly fee for the processors they put into their systems; likewise the PDA and cell phone manufacturers could pay a monthly fee for the flash memory they put into their devices! And, of course, since this is a new concept AMD could patent it and charge for their IP. Thus, they'd be able to combine both Microsoft's and Rambus's business models.
