I don't want to drag this on forever as my knowledge, or lack thereof, in this area has already been over exposed.

But I have to stick by my view that INTC is "wacko" if they don't go to 400MHz or whatever the max fsb speed may be.

Pushing the FSB to 400MHz has these benefits:

1) It gives RMBS the connection rate which its last adherents claim will allow its alleged performance benefits to shine;
2) If RMBS can't produce a dual channel chip that over comes or outweighs its many market problems, INTC is free of the "political" mess which DRDRAM architecture presents;
3) It gives INTC another promotional issue to use on the AMD front: "First to 400MHz"; and
4) Whether or not its "technologically" required to add performance at this point in time, INTC can claim that its an "advance", not unlike AMD's 200MHz mem bus which though unneeded by commodity SDRAM chips, it will help sell product simply to have that 400MHz number sitting there in the ads.

Unless there are some technical problems or excessive costs involved I just don't see any reason not to go to a 400MHz bus with the next class of CPUs.
