With years and mega-dollars spent by QCOM to develop and refine CDMA, Chinese develop alternative with $24 mil? Right! On the other hand, even if it is true, they need HDR. Also, they will have no compatibility with the rest of 3G world. On the other hand, I don't expect a lot of Chinese to be "roaming" in Europe, US and Japan.

Is intercontental roaming such a big need. I could see airport kiosks offering prepaid plan phones to overseas visitors with a credit card for security. Cost may not be much more than paying the global roaming rates. For the real jet setter, a tri-mode G* phone seem an appropriate solution anyway.
