I-Flow Corp. Announces Availability of C-bloc--TM-- Continuous Nerve Block System for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management

<<<SAN FRANCISCO--(BW HealthWire)--July 14, 2000--

Recent Study Shows System May Decrease Need for

Prolonged Hospital Stays

I-Flow Corp. (NASDAQ:IFLO) Friday announced the availability of the C-bloc(TM) Continuous Nerve Block System for management of postoperative pain.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Worldwide Pain Conference 2000 held in San Francisco, July 15-21, 2000.

In a recent study published in "Anesthesiology" (August 1999), patients were able to go home with this pump, who otherwise would have required a prolonged hospital stay.

"Currently, single-shot nerve blocks are performed by anesthesiologists for both chronic and acute pain. The problem is that the blocks do not last very long. The C-bloc(TM) system, however, offers extended pain relief up to ten times longer than that of a single injection," said Donald M. Earhart, president and CEO of I-Flow Corp. "With this system, patients can potentially be discharged earlier and go back to their homes with this portable infusion pump."

The C-bloc(TM) system for pain management combines the advantages of a custom nerve block kit with the added feature of a disposable infusion pump. I-Flow Corp. received permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the system for use in regional anesthesia and pain management.

The C-bloc(TM) system achieves a continuous blockade by infusing local anesthetic through a catheter placed along a nerve. This provides prolonged postoperative analgesia which lasts much longer than a single-injection of anesthetics and eliminates the side effects commonly associated with narcotic pain relievers.

The system's portable elastomeric pump delivers medication from an elastic "balloon." The pump's small size and its nonreliance on gravity for proper medication delivery enable it to be worn by the patient, allowing for better mobility and a quicker transition to rehabilitation.

The C-bloc(TM)Continuous Nerve Block System can be ordered through Spinal Specialties Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of I-Flow Corp., at 800/678-6065.
