We've seen and heard about every possible merger partner, takeover candidate, etc. in the last 4 years. New partners rumored every few weeks. Not once has it come true. Not once. This time is different? Maybe. Maybe not. What does ICO need G* for anyway? An early entry? They have spectrum, satellites, global coverage, voice/data--the only difference is that G* is up. Is G* a data system? Has anyone figured out the data capacity of a G* satellite? Why was Skybridge proposed if G* is a data system? How many additional gateways will be needed for data? Who will pay? All unanswered questions. I don't think there is much behind this rally other than the securing of additional financing. The shorts see the death of G* now delayed until late 2001, and they aren't that patient. Absolutely nothing has surfaced about MOU, or large purchase orders that would suggest the business plan is really working.
