Good afternoon Market Gem Posters and Readers. Biotech stocks in general were down over this week. The BioMedTech Index of Stocks Under $70 was down 4.83% for the week ending 7/14/00 (see biobiznet.com).

The CRO-pharma stocks CVD and QTRN made a comeback at +35.14% and +13.25%, respectively, for the week. The biotech stock XOMA was up 61.24% for the week.

Table 2 on the site gives the weekly close for various biotech/pharma Indices, Funds, HOLDRs. These were generally down for the week, with the ORHBX and FBDIX slightly off at -0.88% and -1.74%, respectively.

Better luck next week. Perhaps several quality stocks that were down this week (like IMNX and SQNM) will come back next week.
