Interesting that you say Cisco is a leader in the networking field. They clearly are leaders in many segments within the networking field, but they are not the leaders in the two hottest sectors right now - optical and wireless. Nortel is the undisputed king of optical. I'm not sure if they are the leader in wireless, but they certainly outrank Cisco there as well. So considering that this is where all of the service providers are going and where most of the growth is going to be over the next 3-5 years, it would be a mistake to discount Nortel in the short term. You will be waiting 2-3 years for Cisco to catch up in these areas. So maybe you should consider buying Nortel, just to get a piece of the action.

Marriage to one stock in any widely defined industry is dangerous in terms of opportunity costs. I'm not saying sell your Cisco. I never advise that. I haven't sold any Cisco in 3 years and I don't plan on selling any in the next 5. But I sure will buy other companies in sectors Cisco don't show up favorably in. To not do so is folly.
