Ian: I think these analysts have become "public figures". Firms that sue without understanding this are making fools of themselves, something perhaps not all that alien to .... (won't say because I don't want to be the trial case).

This means to me that anyone can select any analyst that is such a public figure and say anything they want about their competence etc. That's the price you pay for being a public figure. Just like I can call my local Senator an idiot if I want to. The very long and extensive set of precedents in this area are fully understood in US legal system.
