Hi, Frank - The desire of the founder(s) of this thread to maintain an objective stance is well understood, perhaps more by some than others. Agreed, without reservation, that this is desirable.
And yet, it can be true that a company embodies the concept at hand, in pursuit of its business plan. For example, the discussion of VOFDM/WOFDM prompted a whole string of sub-discussions (patents, wireless trends, modulation/coding techniques, corporate psychology), all implicitly, sometimes explicitly, connected to the principals, Cisco and Wi-LAN.
I am not sure that it is possible, or desirable to completely divide companies from general discussions of practices. I have made multiple references to T in the last while; Mike's posts stand out for his recurring references to Alcatel. I have no investment in T; neither do I have any problems with Mike's references to Alcatel, because the references also pertain to larger issues.
We had Hatim Zaghloul on here for a short while, before IPR issues made it necessary for him to leave. As I recall, his presence was warmly received.
The sense of your post is well taken; yet, I feel we could liberalize the stance a bit, without allowing a descent into simple advocacy.
FWIW, another point of view.
Best regards,
Jim |
