Mike, I am trying to figure out I2 right now. The thing is, the valuation is not as overblown as some of the other b2bs so its a tough call. I know you know they made their name on the demand planner and a proprietary language (called oil) which talked across the chain. But that was 4 years ago. I haven't worked with them directly for a long time and I must admit I don't know how they have modernized their architecture.

I do know that EJBs + XML + some adapter layer is creating at least the perception that extended enterprise transactions with multiple suppliers are now possible for the masses using technology that is somewhat standard. I don't want to get into a religious war because I also don't think XML is "all that" - if somebody wants to upload a configured bom into someone elses ERP its still a pain, XML or no. But the tags are nice and BEA can give us some decent transaction mgmt that says "don't add the BOM without the SKU", etc.

The demand planner from I2 is still in a class by itself as far as I know - but the suppliers are saying they want one set of XML documents going in and out of their ERPs, and besides, they want their products up on these new exchanges at the same time they push availability info to Dell.

I think for a while I2 was the only game in town wrt SCM and now the extended supply chain is everywhere, just a bit of a changing landscape is all - no reason they can't still win but will the mkt see it that way?
