Robert, violence is intrinsic to existence, as basic as gravity. A rock is pushed down a river by violent water, crunching smaller rocks as each seeks out its logical existence based on the four forces of the apocalypse:

Gravity, strong force, electromagnetic force, weak force.

Molecules crystallize determinedly into zeolite clays, quartz and other forms, shoving other stuff out of the way to do so.

Zeolites force organic molecules together into specific shapes. Amino acids get forced into spiraling DNA chains which then go on to move the earth and anything else to suit their being.

When existence is threatened, violence results. When existence is promoted, harmony and synergy ensue. To the extent that DNA is violent among itself [whether by nukes or caps in the bum] is the extent to which the DNA is failing to act in synergy to overcome the four forces of the apocalypse which will do us in, eventually, if we fail to overcome them with the greatest force of all, mind and being. With It[tm] revving up, we are sure to make some pretty good progress in defeating those four forces of the apocalypse.

The true battle is 'being' against 'nothing' and all of existence need be brought to the battle to win. Religious people would call it good against evil. Shakespeare pondered "To be, or not to be, that is the question...blah, blah, blah..." I'm aliterate so have no idea if that's the right quote for here.

Making this up as I go, so no double-your-money-back guarantee on taking on the four forces. Maybe the meaning of life is to play golf?

Meanwhile, on 24, 25, 26 July I get to see Steven Weinberg give the 2000 Robb Lectures at Auckland University. Here he is: counterbalance.org

PS: Steven might give me some tips on how to invert/reverse-spin those pesky gravitons so I can achieve lift-off.
