Rudedog, I would see it this way: Will a 4 year old load anything on a Linux Desktop? Certainly. I know several people who cannot tell the difference between a Linux desktop and a Windows desktop. Maybe they can tell a difference, but they don't know which is which.

Do the kids modify everything, add bookmarks and drag files to the trash can? Of course they do. Do you care about if the computer works next time you are going to use it seriously? Yes, you do. So, if the applications, that are on a Linux, are good enough for your kids, Linux is the easiest way to give the kids computer access.

But of course, if you have a Windows machine and a Linux desktop besides each other, they will probably chose the Windows machine, and you will clean up your Windows PC more often.
