Hi Fiber,

So in plain English, (a)s a result, unlike other 802 LANs, 802.11 retransmits unacknowledged frames. In addition, retries cause unpredictable delays that often block the transmission of subsequent, queued frames. Wireless links also incur high, per-packet MAC and PHY overhead-802.11b framing, gaps and acknowledge add up to 32.6 percent (vs. 3.2 percent for 802.3), what we have here is a failure to communicate.

I wonder if any of our wireless experts would care to chime in on the issue of BER in the ISM bands. Seems to me that these immensely improved data rates promised at the 5Ghz frequency may work out just great in pristine laboratory conditions over very short distances, but fall kinda flat when competing in the real world. I seem to recall the chagrin of a number of vendors at Telecom '99 where their joint use of the ISM bands meant no one at all could get beyond the tower of Babel effect. Just a note from your friendly curmudgeon. :~)

And I'm so glad the the product Radiata gushes over today may be a reality by the end of the year. I await with bated breath.
