EU does not have any muscle on anything, Stephen. Reading your post I got the idea of EU playing the political field better. As an European I can say that, although flattering, it is rubbish. How much do Sweden (ERICY) and Finland (NOK) have influence in EU? Lets remember that the total share of Scandinavians, which also include Norwegians, Icelanders and even the flatheads from Denmark is some 6% of the population of Europe. Lets assume that the influence is zero point zero something (clearly an optimistic estimate). So the next question is that how much do these two countries have influence on, say, China? How many zeros you can put after the point still feeling comfortable? As for concentrated EU efforts for political influence you don't have to look further than Yugoslavia. - rajala
