Paul, Re: "That's an excellent synopsis of Intel's future."
Thanks. Here's another one, compliments to the Compaq thread. So I looked up the processor used inside the new Compaq Pocket PC. 206 MHz Intel StrongARM 32 bit RISC Processor:
compaq.com
Jul. 15 (Houston Chronicle/KRTBN)--It's nice to be wanted. Compaq Computer Corp. apparently has a hit on its hands with its iPaq
H3650 Pocket PC, a handheld computer. Although it's been shipping the product since June, demand is so high it's hard to find one for sale.
But you can find them on eBay, the Internet auction site -- if you have the bucks. The iPaq may have a list price of $499, but bids for the device were as high as $880 Friday afternoon on eBay, and $629 on the competing Amazon Auctions.
Compaq spokeswoman Nora Hahn said the company "is cranking them out as fast as we can" and that the shortages are being caused by demand, not a lack of key components.
Other handhelds that use the Pocket PC software also are selling above list price on eBay, such as Hewlett-Packard's Jornada 545 and 548. The color-screen palmtop, which can also play MP3 music files, uses the Windows for Pocket PC operating system, Microsoft's latest attempt to topple handheld market leader Palm Computing.
