George,
I do not 'take' to many people, and I suspect many do not 'take' to me for reasons I've known of for years, but am simply too stubborn to change or am too stupid to understand how it will be mutually beneficial. I can take you in small doses until I become suspicious of motive. You could just as easily say as much of me and be, perhaps more so, right.
I believe I understand the gist of the post to which you led me. It has merit. But would it make a difference? I understood CGB's thread to be of the same substance when I first came upon it (actually it was she I came upon first, and she invited me to post to the thread she started). Does its original intention still hold true? Not in my opinion. So what might become of a thread which you propose. I'd hate to see a lasting memorial to Edwarda be fated to such a state.
Edwarda's kindness and giving, 3d and cyber, were known. I'd like to see something of real value, something which could make a real difference in another person's life when needed. That would require:
a. money
b. a commitee of volunteers to oversee the fund
c. a charter whose expressed purpose was to give as the need was decided as necessary and would be distributed without prior bias.
"c." would be the toughest, imo.
Such a fund would be a lasting memorial to Edwarda and would benefit the community at large of which she was a member for as long as the community deemed the fund to last. It would also be known as to why the fund was started and why it was started as a memorial to Edwarda.
Her love and kindness towards the general humanity could last indefinitely.
But I suppose in the abscense of such an idea, your's would serve a purpose, too.
I do not wish to make waves, or alter a set course. I do not wish to seen as demeaning the efforts of those who have put time into something else which is generally accepted. Had I not been waiting for a pre-set time to pass for another area of SI, I wouldn't have even bothered to read the thread let alone make a statement of negativity.
Since Edwarda's passing, SI seems lonlier. I'd prefer to let my participation (for the time being) be confined to that of my own making.
Whenever next time is,
