When using Linux, it is important to have matching hardware, just as with Windows NT.

I use a colour printer, a scanner, a HP photo camera, Philips USB webcam and lots of other stuff with my Linux. Everything works with the built-in drivers, because I bought the hardware by looking at the hardware compatibility list.

I'm not sure, what you mean with "autoload", because it can mean automatic installation or automatic running. My 4 year old nephiew knows how to start applications in the start menu (knows placement and icons), so I guess it's automatic installation. And I haven't seen a Linux game yet that requires a CD. I wouldn't trust a 4 year old to install software. And i could easily prevent him from doing so on a Linux or Windows 2000, but of course not on a Windows 95/98/ME.

I would prefer to have my 4 year old use my Linux box than having him put fingerprints on my CDs. On the Linux he cannot damage anything.

I guess the discussion here is not Linux vs. Windows, but Windows 95/98/ME against Windows NT/2000/Linux.
