I probably shouldn't, but it has never stopped me before.

Garth, if you really believe in something then get out there and shake things up. Use the context of the Memorial Fund as precursor to making posts elsewhere. If its a cause you believe in, then screw the terms of use.

Advertise, start new threads in different locations, go to individuals when they won't come to you and ask them straight out about your ideas. And take the heat, without immediately letting their responses bring you to anger.

Remember how Edwarda would approach people she was unfamiliar with? I believe she would give them the benefit of the doubt initially.

I wrote out a very long response to the Flame* a day or two after Edwarda had passed. I never sent it. This situation, unusual perhaps because of its initial impact, still doesn't change how SI is fundamentally. We like the site, but we are still largely a disconnected group with the baggage of conflict in many cases.

People need to simply set aside their differences towards the few and think of the many. Edwarda's memory should be a rallying point on which to try an make a difference in what can be expected of such a diverse group. We have the power. We only need to recognize our ability to use it, and use it for good.

You know where I stand and why. I doubted my idea would merit highly among the readers (which until last night I hadn't bothered to read the thread and only then the last 40 posts) because of past experience, but it is not an idea I've given up on, though I doubt it will ever come into being. If my idea takes hold with a majority, I'll be adding my contribution without delay. If it is not generally accepted, I'll keep it. Like I said, it is at SI most people knew of her. Let it be SI where we continue to honor her in a way befitting to her personality.

I've had my say.
