Why is the thought of a class-action suit against a company (ANY company) so appealing? You never get your losses back. All a class-action suit against T would do is enrich some lawyers by a few hundred million dollars, at the expense of those who have chosen to stay long. It's a legal scam!

I happen to have in front of me my part of a settlement of a class-action suit against Indigo N.V. (INDGF). It's a Warrant certificate dated 4/21/99 allowing me to purchase 335 shares of INDGF at the price of $7.50 per share.

That's magnanimous of them. I can buy INDGF on the market at $6 1/4. What good is the warrant? And is it good in perpetuity? No way! My warrant expires 10/21/01.

Who made anything on this law suit except the lawyers? And how much is it really costing Indigo? Not a red cent!

If I had my way, I'd ban class-action lawsuits altogether, except for cases of outright fraud (more typical of penny stocks). And even then, don't allow money settlements for the lawyers to gobble up. Just put the bad guys in jail.

In other words, fraud is a crime. Deal with it as a crime! And then ban these divisive class-action shams.
