OT: The Skeptic's Corner

Hi Bernard,

Re: Shannon's formula for the capacity of an additive Gaussian channel

I seem to recall that there was some discussion of the V.90 modem protocol violating "Shannon's Law" at the time that it was being initially investigated. The conclusion that some drew from this was that Claude Shannon may not have the final word in all aspects of communications theory. Your point, though, is well taken.

So while you express skepticism, (and the worst of the snooty TLM attitude toward stock promotion [w]), I would advise our readers to take a look at MVEI's latest quarterly filings at the SEC. Unaudited, of course, but it states clearly that the top line revenue of MVEI for the six months ended April 30, 2000 is $6,200. That's right, that's not in thousands (000's). The company made about a grand a month. And had to file a delay 'notice of late filing' to add it all up for the SEC. This was about an 87% decline in revenue year over year. How many more red flags do we need? Yet the stock just about doubled last week. And I'm amazed that some think it's appropriate to be bringing these POSs to be discussed. Go figure. <sigh>

Best, Ray
