If there is one thing I am not it is a hypocrite. I am many other things. This all started because you declared some teacher had had coitus in front of a middle SCHOOL class, if I remember correctly. You can't document it. Some rough language at a COLLEGE seminar does NOT equate with what you said you had heard about. I have searched diligently for any link to anything that sounded like what you heard. I do not know why it is so upsetting to you that you were questioned on an unbelievable story. THIS story about the seminar at Tufts is nowhere NEAR as shocking- at least not to me, considering it was privately funded, off site(of a school), and served to answer participant questions. I took an upper division human sexuality course in my health professions curriculum that involved watching porno films to contrast them with sex education films aimed at people with genuine sexual dysfunction. We were looking for the different ways in which sex was presented in the films. Could have been written up in a newspaper QUITE salaciously- but in fact it was anything but stimulating- at least for me I did MY term paper for this class on sex in the elderly- and I gave a graphic speech about encouraging sex among the elderly to keep them healthy both mentally and physically. If my son was gay I would WANT him to date other men. I wouldn't want him to end up alone and sexless, just because he was born with the ability to love men instead of women. I would hope he wouldn't be gay- because society is cruel and brutal to people who are different- even when they hurt NO ONE else. But if he had to be different- if his fantasies have to be of men- then YOU BET I want my son to date other men. I feel the same about my daughters. If they find they can only love other women I hope they will find a good woman and settle down. Love is love, I am not afraid of it in any of it's manifestations between consenting adults. Why would you think I would be? Why would YOU be? How sad if you had a gay child. How shut out and terrible they would feel. It is interesting how terrible most men think homosexuality is- but usually only in MEN. Men like the idea of lipstick lesbians- heck much male pornography is women with other women. Lesbians represent the multiple conquest fantasy, and of course are just waiting for a "good" man to come along to teach them the error of their ways. Nice sexy women dressed up in garters licking other women. But I think male homosexuality speaks to the very real fear men have of penetration (and of any forbidden fantasies they might have, which might make them less "male")- and of course they aren't equipped to be penetrated effectively either. Women do not usually have this fear. So I think women are much more comfortable with the idea of homosexuality. In our culture, at a base level in many minds, to be penetrated is the ultimate degradation-it is a mark of submission. It is symbolic of powerlessness.
