The ultimate killer application is Video-on-Demand and wireless video conferencing. In the nearer term, streaming media playback on the handheld device will be popular. This will start with MP3 audio playback and then MPEG-4 video playback.

Playback requires that only the forward link have high data rates (base station to mobile), and that is why 1x CDMA2000 reserves the high speeds for the forward link.

Concerning the Internet in general, landline (fiber-to-the curb) or wireless (QCOM HDR), I am firm believer that Video-on-Demand will one day be considered an essential technology much like TV is today.
