sditto: Suggest that the diagram would be insufficient for the diagnosis you seek, as you yourself have suggested, the software is the key. That software is of three types (at least) - that imbedded in the chips themselves, that which makes the "phones" and/or appliance work, and that which makes the entire operating system function.

This interrelationship is a unique Qualcomm strength and key element in its gorillaness IMO.

Much, much more important than "patents". Patents are merely a result of Qualcomm's expertise and know how, and a protection against poaching, but I would submit that the loss of all of Qualcomm's patents at this point would have zero effect on its leadership position looking ahead. (But fortunately that speculation is moot, since Qualcomm is in a roughly impregnable patent position for the foreseeable future).
