Chaz, I owned BRCM, PMCS, CNXT, JDSU for much of 1998-99. Each as a "several bagger" for me. I sold all but JDSU in late '99 during the great QCOM buying binge. I am back into PMCS now. Thinking about BRCM seriously.
JDSU is a King. Period. None of the discussions about their corner on the scientist/engineer talent pool change that. Engineers are pouring out of the colleges and the demand for optical types will increase the supply. In the years ahead, JDSU's engineers will be tempted to cash out their vested options and move on to the next great start up. That's no lock.
The idea about making up new names for Royalty or Apes is of no use to me. JDSU is an unusually strong King, as, it can be argued, is INTC. I suggest you not loose sight of the idea that Kings should be held lightly. I don't anticipate that I will be turning JDSU loose anytime soon, but I will probably let it loose before I do any of my true Gorillas.
Now, if JDSU starts building its own finished, integrated systems someday, to compete with its customers, that would be interesting. |
