[C6X availability take three. . .]
Edward --
Thanks for the URL. I'll try to pick up the hard copy, since this one isn't online.
As for the TI C6X, I just spoke with Greg Waters and he said the "plain vanilla" DSP is, indeed, available in commercial quantities. The version for Amati is more complex and, in his words, "will be out shortly." Good news, indeed! From the time Amati gets the chips, it takes around 2 months to tweak them and get them into production. Obviously, USRX will take longer because they have to start from scratch.
Now, I also spoke with Ron Westernek at USRX and I'm quite sure he'll show up in some future novel as the quintissential Type-AAAAAAA second-tier corporate lackey. There's a shorter description for people like him, but I'd be censored if I used it. According to him USRX is the best and the brightest and so capable of setting defacto standards they would never have to license anything from anyone. Heck, according to him, there is no standard, much less one Amati owns. He was so forceful I had to remind him I was an individual investor and that he was completely intimidating. He then apologized and backed down a bit.
Greg Waters was the opposite. A gentleman from start to finish. He began by saying TI's partnership with Amati was extremely valuable and went on to say they were NOT working with Aware. Whatever USRX had going had nothing to do with TI. He spoke of Amati in superlatives: "They're a heck of a company. . . . capable. . . . talented. . . " And of the DSL market, "It's is huge. . . . [Amati] has an important role . . . ."
My sincerest sympathy to anyone who has to work with USRX. That JS and RC got to the altar and very close to the final "I do's" is a tribute to their abilities.
Cheers!
Pat
