Largest Russian Retailer Deploys J.D. Edwards B2B Enterprise Software

 To Deliver True Competitive Advantage

DENVER, July 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Robertson & Blums Corporation, J.D. Edwards & Company's (Nasdaq: JDEC) Russia-based business partner, today announced it has won a contract to provide GUM, the largest retailer in Russia, with ActivEra(TM) Solutions, powered by OneWorld(R), its enterprise software solution for e-business. GUM selected the solution to automate primarily its financial and distribution processes and then to streamline other areas of its growing business. Working in conjunction with Robertson & Blums, Ernst & Young will be the primary system implementers for the OneWorld solution.

GUM is the largest Russian retail trade holding company with 17 subsidiaries in Moscow and across Russia and a total trading space of over 200,000 square meters. The company has over 3,500 employees and around 30,000 shoppers visit its stores daily. GUM are retailers for major fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) vendors worldwide, including Yves Saint Laurent, Wella, Clinique, Escada, Estee Lauder and others.

Prior to selection of the new solution, GUM identified its major business goal as gaining true strategic advantage over its competitors in the Russian retail industry. The Russian retail economy is a fast-developing market; therefore the company's approach to the selection of the software solution and partners for automation was crucial to the company's future success. Ernst & Young provided strategic advice during the selection process.

GUM's president Vyacheslav Vechkanov commented, "For us, developing our own e-commerce practices was one of the biggest challenges we were facing. OneWorld from J.D. Edwards has a leading position in this area, with great functionality for online trading built in to the core of the software. We knew we could meet our objectives faster and more efficiently with J.D. Edwards and Ernst & Young."

Other western and local enterprise software suppliers including SAP and Baan were considered during the selection process but GUM decided that the J.D. Edwards solution was the only package that could meet the company's objectives in the long term. The main benefits of the J.D. Edwards solution are seen as the ability to implement an integrated information system connecting trading, stock control, financial and administrative units and subsidiaries and integrate remote joint ventures across a single on-line network.

GUM decided that the OneWorld solution would deliver more control over all business activities, ensure transparency of the financial data and support for decision making for various management levels as well as allow for both detailed and consolidated reporting according to the local and GAAP standards. It had to support paperless workflow, stock movement and stock analysis across 100,000 products groups and integration with cash machines.

Nigel Pullan, Senior VP EMEA, J.D. Edwards added, "The project at GUM is very important for Robertson & Blums and J.D. Edwards, and is a great testimonial to the e-business functionality we have built into the OneWorld solution. For retailers across the EMEA region -- speed is the new currency and we are working with organizations such as GUM to implement their new e-business solutions quickly to allow them the flexibility to change in the future when their market demands."

The financial, logistics/distribution and manufacturing suites of J.D. Edwards OneWorld will be installed in GUM on an HP/UNIX platform with an Oracle database. The implementation is expected to be eight months.
