Mr. William Jung reports
The company's Internet data centre (IDC) project in the People's Republic of
China with a major Chinese Internet company is progressing as planned. Michael
Ginn, vice-president of technical operations, left for Beijing yesterday to meet with
project leaders of Sun Microsystems, Inc., to co-ordinate the preparation of a
project development plan outlining in detail the components of the IDC model that
is targeted for construction. The company will be finalizing facilities for a Beijing
office and staffing to work on a full-time basis with its Chinese partner and Sun to
ensure the timely completion and deployment of the IDC project development
plan.
Internet facilities and support services will be in great demand due to the
anticipated explosive growth in China for Internet and related e-commerce
activities. The Internet growth in China has doubled every six months during the
past year and a half. According to a recent survey published by an independent
research firm, Interactive Audience Measurement Asia, there are currently 12.3
million Internet users in China and it is expected to become the second-largest
Internet user next to the United States within four years.
Concept Wireless's current activity in China also includes a paging joint venture
(Contour) that operates paging systems in 13 cities in Shandong province and is
the second-largest paging network in the province with approximately 400,000
subscribers. Contour recently reached an agreement to form an alliance with
another Beijing-based company to be an Internet service provider and to offer
two-way wireless messaging and long-distance calling via the Internet (VoIP).
This new alliance and the Jitong IDC project will enable the company to extend its
Chinese telecommunications and Internet operations significantly in China.
Prior to returning from China, Mr. Ginn will be in Hong Kong to meet with certain
Hong Kong listed companies regarding possible financing for the above projects
through a listing on the Growth Enterprise Market, of the Stock Exchange of
Hong Kong Limited.
The company's activities have recently been featured on two Internet business
Web sites, www.VirtualChina.com, that specializes in news for the China
telecommunications and Internet industries, and www.CanadaInvest.com.
