Actually the real rate has gone negative a couple times, considering inflation. I don't think any central bank has actually gone so far as paying out cash to someone for borrowing, but the japs are there for all intents and purposes. What a bunch of spineless morons. -g-

I remember a question like this on an exam. I was thinking of bringing up the Ivanhoe story where the old Jewish father with all the money could have decided to pay negative interest for Ivanhoe to cart it out of harm's way but then I remembered that is just an armored car service, not negative interest. -g-
