Well, I sort of agree with you up to a point.

Intel needs to study the situation first, shooting from the hip won't do anyone any good. But personally, I'd like to see all-out retalitation against DEC also, including counter suits and a cessation of sales of all Intel products to DEC to the maximum extent allowed by law.

But only against DEC, not against the other companies that you mentioned, not even Cyrix.

Competition is not a sin.

But the stunt that DEC pulled yesterday was so extraordinarily over the line that I would be inclined to take it as a declaration of all-out-war and react appropriately. Twenty-Five percent of DEC's sales are based on computers using Intel chips. Some of these are multi-processor Pentium Pros, for which there is NO substitute. The key point that really burns me is not the act of charging patent infringement and pursuing it, but the "Pearl Harbor" nature of the attack with no warning and no discussion beforehand. Palmer says that "he didn't want to wake Andy". BS -- he could at least have called him the day before, after the close of the markets [which is only 1 pm in Calif.].
