Thanks for the info about the L2 cache. This story is quite different from the one Pete Gerassi posted, and a whole lot more palatable.

I'm not sure I agree with their decision not to do the L2 tag compare in parallel with the L1, but the high hit rate in the L1 may justify the power savings vs. performance tradeoff.

I guess the L2 isn't as bad as had been previously described on this thread.
