It's the 'less appealing parent' that would make the difference for me there ... also the fact that it is an asian story as opposed to a latino story - i just don't know much about asian culture, customs, language, etc ... while with Cuba i have a long established curiosity and considerable prior knowledge. Like the spokesman there [Terziani?] says, there are a lot of questions to be answered ... the primary being the suitability of the mother, if she is found to be detrimental to his interests then the grandmother, then aunts etc ... family first before anything else, and only when family is eliminated for good reason would i consider other options ... this as a result of applying my own mores, but then what else can a person do.
