The PT Cruiser is built on top of the Neon platform - although I also heard it was on the Stratus platform - thus the smaller overall size for an SUV-like vehicle.

Further the PT cruiser has the 150 hp Stratus engine under the hood. I would think it would be OK for normal commuting, but I would think it would not be too peppy with a full load.

I checked one out (they had one on display at an Eddie Money/REO Speedwagon/Styx concert). They have ample room for 4 adults, but there is little cargo room. You can increase cargo room by removing/folding down the rear seats, but there goes room for 2 passengers.

It also has some nifty features. There is a cover that is used to hide the cargo ares that can be moved to give you a sturdy platform for tailgate parties & such.

The PT Cruiser is well equipped & priced near $20,000. I asked the rep what a fully loaded PT Cruiser would sticker for & he said around $22k & change.

FWIW, it is not an SUV, as it lacks the towing power & the space found in the smaller SUV's I.E. the Ford Explorer or the Chevy Blazer. Of course it will get much better gas mileage then those SUV's.

However, it is a very cool looking vehicle & it seems to be fairly well appointed especially when you consider the price. BTW, the rep said that they discourage selling over sticker & they plan on increased production. He also indicated that in a year or two they will offer a larger, more powerful engine.

Hope this helps.

Tim
